Look at these numbers
I understand the smart person thing to say is that “The Party Decides” and I don’t see how the party chooses Herman Cain. Nonetheless, I really want to see how this ends because barring a major misstep on Cain’s part what do you do against numbers like this.
Even if every Republican who doesn’t know about Cain decides that she hates him he still has a net positive favorability rating. And, that’s seriously unlikely to happen.
Not only that but he has been at every debate and is only getting more popular as he is more well known.
My money still says Obama over Romney 49-48, but again I really want to see how this Herman Cain thing ends because right now I can’t envision it.

First, Cain repeatedly missteps. Second, Romney keeps pulling in the non-insance voters, and pulls pluralities in primaries, which could well happen until it’s down to him, the Tea Party candidate (whomever that is) and Ron Paul. By then, he’ll have momentum, a string of victories, and favorable press coverage (as the theme turns into ‘who will win the nomination’, rather than ‘watch the whackjobs and midgets fight’). Romney will also get the Big Money, in semi-truck loads. And various organizations will start supporting him.

Cain doesn’t have the savvy advisers (or won’t listen to them) to warn him against actual policy proposals. He really thinks his platitudes translated into actual policy will be as popular as his bumper sticker pronouncements. They aren’t and they won’t be.

Cain has little if any organization in any primary battleground States, so the question is whether people who say they like him will be actually voting for him in primaries in the coming months when there isn’t anyone actually knocking on doors for him, or helping people get to the polls.
Second, the man is a charatan. My guess, if he see himself moving towards the actual nomination, he drops out. Hard to go on book tours or get more contracts for radion shows or TV shows if you are forced to actually, say, govern,
